OVERVIEW

Conga Kids is following CASEL Framework

The benefits of social and emotional learning (SEL) are well-researched, with evidence demonstrating that an education that promotes SEL yields positive outcomes for students, adults, and school communities.

The findings below come from hundreds of independent studies across multiple fields and sources that show SEL leads to beneficial outcomes related to social and emotional skills, academic performance, mental wellness, healthy behaviors, school climate and safety, and lifetime outcomes.

why dance?

A large outdoor event with children and adults seated in rows, some children wearing colorful t-shirts with 'Kids' written on them, on a city street in front of a modern arena or convention center with signs for 'crypto.com' and 'Arena'. The children are cheering and clapping, and the crowd is lively with many spectators.

What is the CASEL framework, & how do we align it with our curriculum?

CASEL: Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is integral to education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities.

our teaCHERS!

Conga Kids' mission is to promote social and emotional well-being through social dance. We believe that magic is created at the intersection of community, dance, and music - and harnessing that magic can transform lives. Our in-school residency programs work with 4th and 5th-grade students to provide a celebratory introduction to social dance forms of the African Diaspora and the social and emotional lessons that can be learned from them. Our diverse dance curriculum includes explorations of styles like Merengue, Cumbia, Samba, Rumba, Danzón, Salsa, Vernacular Jazz, and various Street/ Hip Hop styles taught by artists from the greater Los Angeles county to our students (aka “the Conga Kids”). Conga Kids works at school sites throughout greater Los Angeles County.
